To find the inverse of a function you,
1.) Change f(x) to y
y = 4x + 2

2.) Switch the values of x and y
x = 4y + 2 

3.) Solve for y 
 x = 4y + 2
-2          -2
-----------------
x - 2 = 4y
------   ----
   4       4
y = x/4 - 1/2 

So, f-1 = x/4 - 1/2
