Herta wants to build a picket fence in her front yard. Her design has fence posts that are 8.5 feet apart, with 19 pickets between each set of posts. If the pickets are 3 inches wide, how wide should the gaps be so that everything is evenly spaced?

8.5 Feet  = 102 inches

Pickets = 19 x 3  = 57 inches

Remaining = 102 inches - 57 inches = 45

If you put 19 pickets, there will be 20 gaps

So each will be 45 / 20 = 2.25 inches wide
