CortÊs was greatly helped to take Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital, by other indigenous peoples, particularly those from Tlaxcala. Aztec dominion over the other groups was resented by them, thus they saw an opportunity in CortÊs to end the Aztec Empire. CortÊs had under his command thousands of warriors from Tlaxcala who knew how the Aztec fought and their tactics.
